We’re glad you’re here! Thanks for checking in here to find out what we’re up to with internationals in Monterey, CA.
Although we’ve been involved with international students since late 1992 (first as volunteers, then through staff association since 1995), the last five years we’ve been focused on a specific group: International wives, couples and families! This has been an amazing “fit” for us during this time. As new empty nesters (although the “nest” doesn’t always stay empty 😊), God seemed to know Caroline, especially, might be missing our three children as little ones – well, at least a bit! Over the past five years, however, we’ve enjoyed so many little ones – and of course their parents – coming in (and out) of our lives. The International Wives Connection (IWC) Monterey outreach focuses mainly on the spouses of students at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) and Defense Language Institute (DLI) in Monterey, CA. We also have some connection with married students / faculty at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies (MIIS) and Monterey Peninsula College (MPC) as well. Sometimes, the women who get involved are not specifically connected with a school in the area but are, indeed, international wives. We welcome them, too! We get together as a larger group once/month, but we also often have smaller gatherings – like coffee & conversation, park play dates (weather-permitting), crafting times and book / Bible studies. These are often led by volunteers – local and international/military women. Finally, Dale and I frequently have couples and families over to our home and get to know them that way, too. Dale sometimes develops relationships with the men extending beyond our dinners. They might get together to run, grab a tea/coffee together, etc. We seek to shine God’s light into the relationship(s) by simply being a loving presence.
